I am so hoping someone picks up the Baton that Jeff created. Route 58, truly was a Real New York Deli! I dearly miss the Atmosphere and the incredible Menu. Hoping someone will reopen this Restaurant Icon of Virginia Beach.

Route 58 Deli appears to be Permanently Closed, according to their Web Postings, as the owner Jeff Goldberg apparently passed away in his sleep just this past Friday night. This is what is Posted on the Route 58 website ... WE ARE PERMANENTLY CLOSED! Thank you for your support over the years. He was also known by his 'On-Air' name of Jeff Allen, where he had performed as the morning On-Air Personality at WAFX, 106.9 The Fox! RIP Jeffrey Allen Goldberg

I miss you. I feel like you're an ex from college and i have had too much to drink. I miss your smell. Come back Christine!!! Too specific?!

I really hope they reopened. I was visiting my sister in Virginia Beach this weekend and really wanted to come here, but found they were closed. I found a few pictures from my last visit here earlier this year and thought I would review. Corned beef and pastrami are both made on site... and they are delicious. Like what you would expect in NY or Philly. The fries are amazing and the pickle plate is to due for. Their desserts are incredible - worth every penny and calorie.

Wednesday 11/24/21 2.10pm I'm on my Ruben search again. This time in Virginia Beach at The Route 58 Delicatessen. Came from Richmond Virginia on other business, let's see what's up. Lots of pictures around, pretty cool. The pictures are of the owners life and travels per the waitress. Decent crowd for a Wednesday at 2pm. This is usually when restaurants slow down until dinner but not here! As you see on the front door and on the menu they have an award winning Ruben!!! hopefully I won't be traveling to Virginia Beach every time I want a Ruben! Ha! Love the waitress, Heather. She was excellent! Thanks Heather! Uh oh! I ordered before I looked at prices. It's $24.50! Eeek hey, if this is the best Ruben ever, I don't mind... It's HUGE as you can see, it taste pretty good. I can't give a 100% review because I previously had Covid and lost my taste and smell so I'm not getting the full experience. (I keep forgetting I can't taste fully until I start eating then I'm like dang!) I will make a trip back to get the full experience after My taste buds are back to normal. Then update this review. My gut says it'll be worth the trip. Excellent Rt. 58!

Went here as my daughter was raving about their hotdogs and cheesecakes. We ordered the hotdog combo and their bacon cheese fries and that' was A LOT of food. The cheesecakes are HUGEEEE. We got a traditional, apple crumble, raspberry swirl, strawberry cheesecakes, and the lemon pie. Hugeeeee portions.

My boyfriend raves about this place and so I got to try it out this past weekend. Should I talk about the food first or the place? Let's start with the place. When you walk in, it's a bit overwhelming with the pictures on the walls and I'm not talking about small ones here and there. There's small ones everywhere! There's also a lot of words and if you don't have the attention span to read them at first glance, they all look like they're just yelling at ya. Our waitress was super friendly and kind. We sat down and really got to look at the photos on the walls which was a nice touch to waiting for our food. We also got to sample the pastrami and corned beef and both was equally tasty and unique on its own. We tried the knish because for me as a Filipino, I've never seen anything that comes with both a sour cream and apple sauce for dipping. I couldn't hate it but it's uniqueness made me question whether I liked it, hahaha. Dipping both the sour cream and applesauce was unique and we definitely ate it all still questioning why we liked it so much. Then came the sandwiches. Since we got to sample the two meats, I couldn't decide between them so I got the Super Reuben. This THING IS HUGE! I ended up splitting the other half with my daughter and we still had extra to take home. I'm not a sandwich person so trying out this monster was surprisingly good. We left room for their huge desserts. We ordered the chocolate cake and the strawberry cheesecake. Both were delicious and enough to take home too. Everything was impeccable and I can't wait to go back.

Hands down the best Reuben in the Hampton Roads area. The 2lb sandwich makes for a delicious lunch, easily filling 2+ people! We always order the bacon cheese fries to go with it, but they have several mouthwatering fry topping options. Really crispy crinkle cut fries complimented by a generous amount of cheese sauce and bacon crumbles. Yum! Though we have yet to venture too far out into the menu, it is a big one with plenty of options to please everyone. Service is always prompt and we've never had to wait long to be seated. We still have to come in to try some of the desserts we hear so much about... we're always too full to order any after we eat!

This place is a taste of the tri-east. It's a small experience of philly, new jersey and new york. As a person who has lived in NJ for five years. Rye bread, pastrami Ruebens are nothing new to me. The Jewish and Italian roots make delis popular in NJ. But for Va Beach, there is nothing as close to what you would get as far as NJ diner style food than being here. The front door is flooded with signage that make people to come here. Big bold yellow words "PASTRAMI" "CHEESECAKE" and "VOTED #1 SUPER RUBUEN" prompted me to go eat here. The service here is good. There was a good amount of people eating for lunch. What captivated me the most was them giant corn beef pastrami filled sandwich. I knew I had to order it. It included the special sauce with sauerkraut. For the price of $20 you can expect that this is two meals in one. Sadly, I was hoping that it would've included fries. The pricing can be high for the sandwiches.. fries should be included with the cost in my opinion. I ordered fries to compliment my meal and those cheesy topped disco fries with gravy had my taste buds jumping. If I was to compare this, it's basically having potatoes with gravy but with a crunch and cheesy addition. But the gravy was so good and seeing the cheesy gooey ness made me go back for more. I enjoyed my meal with their special egg chocolate drink concoction. It's a form of cream soda and a mixer of chocolate milk. It is a must have or the Dr. Browns cream soda. I will be back!!
